HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

A year ago, January 24, 2011 I received an offer to contract my novel "According to Plan" from Kim Jacobs with Turquoise Morning Press. January 25, 2011 was the day I signed and returned the contract, thus beginning my journey as a bona-fide, published author.

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was. As I've said before, time slowed down as my finger hovered over the e-mail - subject 'contract'. Heart racing I read the offer, and then squealed like a crazed tween who'd scored Justin Beiber concert tickets.

This is my official thank you to Kim for taking a chance on an unknown writer who possesses a quirky, sometimes misunderstood sense of humor. Kim holds a special place in my heart.

Glad to see you stuck it out to the end...

One commenter will receive a free electronic copy of According to Plan. My way of saying thank-you for celebrating my anniversary with me  :)

What Are The Reviewers Saying:

Ms. Scarbrough has a way of involving sensuality without going in-depth so that younger readers cannot enjoy the book. -- The Romance Studio

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and felt that I was watching it unfold in front of me as if I was another character in the story. -- Night Owl Reviews

4.5 Stars for ACCORDING TO PLAN

I woke up at 05:00 a.m. and trundled into the bathroom with my iPad, trying really hard NOT to wake up Top Gun. He had to fly out at 2000 hrs tonight, so he was going to sleep in. My mail opened up, and there were about 20 messages, nothing new, so I scrolled through them. About ten messages in, there was a Google alert.

The unfortunate thing about having the name of Madison J Edwards is there are a lot of schools, government offices, etc. bearing the same or similar name, so I don't get too excited any more when the alert pops into my mailbox. Except today.

To save you a trip - I'll give you some highlights.

"The danger might be hot on their tails, but the sex is even hotter...strip pool anyone?"

"Fast paced with great emotional quality, this story keeps you on the edge of your seat with lots of plot twists and scorching love scenes. Shelby and Tank's physical chemistry is off the charts sizzling and undeniable from the moment they touch, but they are also each other's own personal kryptonite."

Some things are worth waking up to. Thank you ladies from LASR - you made my Friday the 13th extra special.

Kurt von Daniken wants only one thing from Glenna Ryan: The key to making Eiswein - Ice Wine. Five years ago, while working at his family's California winery, she'd begun developing the method to simulate wine made from grapes gathered after a freeze. Now, when the winery desperately needs it, the only person who might be able to duplicate Glenna's process, Kurt's tyrannical Uncle Otto, lies paralyzed by a stroke and near death.

Glenna wants only one thing from the von Danikens: To be left in peace to raise her son, Robbie, who suffers from a birth defect and needs an expensive surgery to repair it. When Kurt suddenly appears at her home, demanding she return to Cresthaven and complete the process, Glenna knows the money she'll earn by doing so will provide Robbie the treatment he needs. She also knows she'll risk having her heart broken, again, by Kurt, the only man she's ever loved. But, what if he discovers the real reason she left Cresthaven?

Excerpt:

Momentarily reassured, Glenna shifted her gaze to the steady line of black oaks flashing past. The road curved and dipped. Weathered fence posts coalesced into a blur of gray as Kurt pressed the sleek burgundy Mercedes through a deft execution of twists and turns.

The music ended, and an interminable strained silence followed in which the only sounds were the shifting of gears and the engine's throaty purr. Then they angled right, onto a straight stretch of newly paved blacktop. Anderson Valley.

Memories flooded, and Glenna choked back the lump in her throat. Gooseflesh rose on her arms. She took measured, steadying breaths. If only....

If only the man beside her had been more gentle. But he hadn't. Kurt von Daniken was made of steel. The palpable tension in the car drove her to twist her fingers in the folds of her flowered challis skirt.

As they crested the hill, a perfect green carpet spread before them. Row upon row of neatly pruned grape vines swathed the valley floor and crowded up the hillside to the horizon, their early spring leaves a palette of fresh green. From the west, afternoon sunlight shafted through a break in a cottony puff of cloud, then abruptly disappeared as the sedan hurtled onto a graveled lane.

A hundred yards ahead, two square pillars emblazoned with the von Daniken stag-head insignia stood silent guard. Massive iron gates swung wide to admit the car, then closed with a harsh metallic clang.

The cold gray-brown walls of Cresthaven loomed from behind a half-dozen sheltering oaks. Glenna drew in a shaky breath. Magnificent Cresthaven, the formidable dowager of Anderson Valley wineries.

Hell on earth.

Thanks for having me as your guest today Madison. I had a great time interviewing Red and I’ll be looking forward to responding to comments. Little Red Riding Wolf Character Interview
Hi I’m Jessica Aspen and today I’m interviewing Red, the heroine in my new sensual novella Little Red Riding Wolf. Red works in Burdock’s general store, one of the last family owned general stores in Colorado, but she hasn’t been working lately.
JA: Hi Red, how are things going? I haven’t seen you in the store lately, what’s up?
Red: Maybe you should be interviewing my brother, Seth. He’s the one who’s been working in the store lately. My mom seems to think I should be home helping her can jar after jar of jam.
JA: You’re twenty-two, right? And your mom is still directing your life? Most women your age are out starting careers.
Red: Right! That’s just what I’ve been telling my family. But no! All my mom does is hold it over my head that I’m young for a were-wolf and we’re different from humans. I’m ready to blow.
JA: So is that why you’re not working right now?
Red: Well, sort of. My mom made up some excuse to send me up the mountain to check on my Grandma, but I kinda tripped over the real reason she wants me out of town.
JA: Go on.
Red: I’ll give you some hints: he’s tall, hot and human. And he’s taken over as the local forest ranger.
JA: Ah, Evan Brewster. You’re right, he is hot. And human. Won’t that be trouble?
Red: Only if I get serious with him. But I’m not going to do that. I’m just going to play with him a little, keep it fun.
JA: And what does Evan say about that? He seems like a serious kind of man.
Red: I’ll let you know. Right now I’m just enjoying teasing the heck out of him.
JA: You know what they say about playing with fire?
Red: I don’t need another mom. My brother Seth already thinks he can boss me around.
JA: If Seth finds out about Evan, you’ll both be in the fire.
Red: I know. And there’s something else. I think Evan may suspect the town’s secret. I think he might know we’re all were-wolves. If he lets it become public, I won’t be the only one in trouble.
JA: Hot guy, rebellious chick, angry interfering brother and secrets. Sounds like your ‘fun’ is about to blow up in your face.
Red: Tell me about it. All I need is my Granny to show up and we’ll have a hell of a party. I’d better go; Evan might be on his way up to Granny’s cabin right now. If Seth finds Evan sniffing around I’ll have more to deal with than my mom’s holding me back. I’ll have to deal with an angry werewolf.
JA: Good luck!

Saturday Workshop

I attended a writing workshop, and the lecturer - former senior editor with Harlequin - gave us an exercise to do. He provided us with the lead line - 'It was supposed to be a simple vacation' - and then we had ten minutes to write something down. This was my creation. Nothing fancy, just plain fun.

 ********

It was supposed to be a simple vacation. Two glorious weeks away from my job, traffic congestion and most important, two weeks away from snow.

If I knew then what I unfortunately know now, I'd have stayed buried under three feet of the white stuff. Instead, I'm hunting down a cursed blood amulet some Voodo witch doctor thinks I stole from him. Hiding in dark alleys to avoid temporal police, and not enjoying one minute of the sunny Caribbean I'd saved years to get to.

Oh yeah, I forgot. I'm also becoming used to being one of the undead. Not as glamorous as the books make it out to be. Kinda sucks. I will be eternally pasty white, unless I find that damned amulet. Problem with that is, the smarmy bastard who DID steal it jumped back in time to Victorian England and has stashed it somewhere in the tower.

Yup - you guessed it.  THE Tower. Where you go in and don't come back out in one piece.

Right now I'm trying to find another time portal and jump to when he first arrives. I'll trip the rat, take the amulet and pop back to my century.

Everybody's happy, and I get my life back.

But there's a catch. Because of all the time jumps, temporal police have been dispatched to stop us, put us in limbo and repair the rips in time.

Bummer.

LOVIN' THE COVEN - RESCUE ME

Amy Mann has a plan…and Captain Riley Pennimon is nowhere on that list.

Sitting in front of her parents’ house in a U-Haul truck at midnight, Amy Mann decides it’s time to break it to them that she’s divorced from her husband and moving back home with her seven year old son, Toby. As Amy settles into her hometown, she has a plan to get out of debt, get her college degree, and put her life together.

Enter Captain Riley Pennimon, local firefighter and superhero to Amy’s son. Riley is kind, brave and civic minded. The captain does not fit into Amy’s putting-her-life-together plan, and yet he is way too good looking without a shirt. Much to Amy’s chagrin, Toby decides that Riley is just what they need for a happily ever after.

But, can Amy make peace with the demons of her mistakes and let the captain rescue her? And…can Riley let go of his past and grab onto the family he’s always wanted?

What do the reviewers have to say about RESCUE ME?

Ms. Johnson's dialogue and quirky humor make Rescue Me a highly entertaining read!

With just enough passion blended with just enough lightheartedness, Jennifer Johnson has truly created a novel that I think is stellar.

I found this story to be a entertaining read. The characters were warm, funny and realistic.

Do yourself a favor. Cruise on over to Amazon and read a bit more, use that ‘buy with one click’ button, then settle in and read a warm romance. Jennifer Johnson’s humour will shine through, and you’ll be hooked for life.
